Are you ready for the “Chill of a Lifetime”? It’s time to gear up, get creative, and get cold! On March 7, 2026, the Western Kentucky Polar Plunge and Polar 5K returns to Kentucky Dam Village State Resort Park. Whether you’re a seasoned “Polar Bear” or a first-time plunger, this event is the ultimate way to support Special Olympics Kentucky.

Mark your calendars for a day of freezing fun in Gilbertsville!

  • Date: Saturday, March 7, 2026
  • Location: Kentucky Dam Village State Resort Park
    113 Administration Dr., Gilbertsville, KY
  • The Mission: Raising vital funds for Special Olympics athletes across the state.


Choose Your Challenge: 5K, Plunge, or Triple Crown?

The Western Kentucky Plunge offers something for everyone, regardless of your cold-tolerance level:

  1. The Polar 5K: Run one of the most scenic 5K courses in Kentucky.
  2. The Traditional Plunge: Take the leap from the docks into the chilly waters of Kentucky Lake.
  3. The Shore Plunge: Prefer a gradual entry? Run into the water from the beach.
  4. The Triple Crown Challenge: For the truly adventurous—complete the 5K, the dock plunge, and the shore plunge!
  5. The Personal Plunge: Want to support the cause from the warmth of your home? Register as a “Personal Plunger” to earn your t-shirt and fundraising awards without getting wet.

Fundraising Requirements

To participate in the Plunge, participants must meet the following minimum fundraising goals:

  • Adults: $100 minimum
  • Junior Plungers (Under 18): $65 minimum

Costumes & Awards: Go Big or Go Home!

It’s not just about the water; it’s about the style! We encourage all participants to dress up. We will be handing out prizes for:

  • Best Individual Costume
  • Best Group Costume

We also celebrate our heavy hitters with awards for the Top Individual Fundraiser and the Top Fundraising Teams across Corporate/Civic, School, and Law Enforcement divisions.
